Electrician in protective gloves testing wiring terminals at a workbench

Domestic & small commercial · Yonder Vale and the Prism district

Wiring that is tested, labelled and signed off

Three electricians, one van each, and no subcontracted crews. We take on consumer units, stubborn faults, lighting circuits and full rewires — then hand over the test results in writing before we leave.

  • Survey window
Two-hour arrival slots, morning or afternoon, confirmed the day before.
  • Every job certificated
Written test schedule and circuit chart issued on completion, not weeks later.
  • Where we work
Yonder Vale, Prism Hill, Calder Row, Ashmount and the Tannery Quarter.

What we get called out for

Six lanes of work

Each lane lists what is actually included and roughly how soon we can start, so you can tell whether to book a survey or ask for a fault visit.

  1. 01

    Consumer unit replacement

Swap of an old fuse box for an insulated board with RCBO protection per circuit, plus main bonding checks to gas and water where they are accessible.

    Typical lead time
1–2 weeks · one day on site
  2. 02

    Fault finding

Tripping breakers, dead sockets, flickering lights and buried joints. We isolate circuit by circuit, find the cause, and quote the repair before touching it.

    Typical lead time
2–4 working days · half day on site
  3. 03

    Lighting and switching

New lighting circuits, downlight layouts, pendant runs over islands, outdoor and garden lighting, dimming that does not buzz, and two-way switching for stairs and landings.

    Typical lead time
1–2 weeks · one to two days
  4. 04

    EV-ready supply

Load assessment of your existing supply, a dedicated protected circuit to the parking position, and cable routing agreed with you before any drilling starts.

    Typical lead time
2–3 weeks · one day on site
  5. 05

    Rewires, full or partial

Room-by-room staging so you keep power and hot water overnight, agreed socket and switch positions marked up on site, and chasing made good ready for decoration.

    Typical lead time
    3–5 weeks · 5–12 days on site
  6. 06

    Landlord and pre-sale testing

Periodic inspection of an occupied property with photographed observations, coded findings, and a separate quote for anything that needs remedial work.

    Typical lead time
    1 week · 2–4 hours per property

Not sure which lane fits? Describe the symptom in the enquiry form and we will tell you whether it needs a survey, a fault visit, or nothing at all.

How a visit runs

Four steps, no surprises

The part most people worry about is how long the power is off and what it will cost once the covers come off. Here is the sequence we follow on every job.

  1. Survey and written quote

We look at the board, the earthing arrangement and the circuits involved, then send a fixed quote itemised by circuit. Surveys for quoted work carry no charge.

  2. Dates and isolation plan

You get the start date, the arrival window and the hours power will be off — usually staged so the fridge, boiler and one working socket stay live.

  3. Install, test, label

Dust sheets down, cores tested as we go, every way on the board labelled to the room it feeds. Anything unexpected is priced and agreed before we continue.

  4. Handover and paperwork

We walk you through what changed, demonstrate the RCD test, and issue the certificate and circuit chart the same day.

Paperwork and standards

What you are left holding

Electrical work is only finished when it is documented. These are the details we commit to in writing for domestic and small commercial jobs alike.

If you are selling, remortgaging or letting, tell us at enquiry stage and we will issue the report in the format your solicitor or agent expects.

On completion you receive
A signed certificate for the work carried out, the full schedule of test results, and a printed circuit chart fixed inside the board.
Test schedule includes
Continuity, insulation resistance, polarity, earth fault loop impedance and RCD trip times, recorded per circuit.
Retesting guidance
Owner-occupied homes every ten years, tenanted homes every five, small commercial premises every five — or at change of occupancy.
Workmanship guarantee
Two years on our labour. Accessories and boards carry the manufacturer's own warranty, which we register for you.
On-site conduct
Dust sheets and vacuum extraction while chasing, all offcuts and packaging removed, and the board left safe if a job needs a second day.

Judging urgency

Book now, or book later

Most electrical problems are not emergencies, but a few genuinely are. Use this to decide how quickly to get in touch.

Treat as urgent

  • A burning or fishy smell near a socket, switch or the board.
  • Scorch marks, browning plastic or a warm faceplate.
  • A slight shock or tingle from a tap, appliance or metal fitting.
  • An RCD that will not reset, or that trips again within minutes.
  • Water that has reached a light fitting, board or socket.

Switch the affected circuit off at the board first, then send us the details. Out-of-hours fault cover runs Friday to Sunday.

Fine to plan ahead

  • A rewireable fuse box that still works but has no RCD protection.
  • Too few sockets, or extension leads left in permanent use.
  • Dimmers that hum, or LED lamps that glow faintly when switched off.
  • An unlabelled board, or circuits nobody can account for.
  • Planning a kitchen, loft or car charger in the next few months.

Booking a survey early is worth it for planned work — cable routes are far cheaper to change before plaster and units go in.

Before you book

Questions we are asked most

Will I be left without power all day?

Rarely. For a board change the supply is off for roughly three to five hours in one block. On larger jobs we stage the work so that at least one socket circuit, the boiler and the fridge stay live overnight. You will know the planned off-periods before we start.

Is the survey chargeable?

No charge when the survey leads to a quote for installation work. Diagnostic visits are different: finding a fault is the work itself, so that time is charged, and we tell you the rate before the visit is booked.

How firm is the quote once you open things up?

The quoted figure holds for the scope described. If we find something hidden — perforated cable behind a unit, a joint buried in plaster, no usable earth — we stop, show you, price the extra and wait for your go-ahead. Nothing extra is added after the fact.

Can I supply my own fittings?

Yes for decorative items such as pendants, shades and faceplates — bring them to the survey so we can check the fixing and lamp type. Protective devices, boards and cable we supply ourselves, because we have to certify them.

Do you work in tenanted properties?

Regularly. We contact the tenant directly to agree an arrival window, work around one room at a time where we can, and send the landlord or agent the report with photographed observations and any remedial quote kept separate.

What if I need to move the date?

Tell us as early as you can and there is no charge to move a booking. Same-day changes are harder on a three-van team, but we will always try to refill the slot and offer you the next one that fits.
